Being a senior is an exciting time!  There is no other milestone in a person’s life that is as unique as being a senior and graduating.  It is an exciting time whether you are graduating from high school or getting your degree from a college or university. Commemorate the hard work and celebrate the future in your senior photo session!   You and your photographer are a team.  You work together to capture this milestone. Your senior session can be as fun and exciting, or as relaxed and casual as you would like.  Your photos from your session will be special to you for the rest of your life.  They are a reminder of a unique and special time in your life. Keep that in mind as you prepare for your session.  

​Your photo session should be all about YOU! Your personality, your dreams, your hobbies, and your future. Here in Albuquerque for senior photos you have so many choices!
What is your vision for your senior photo session?  Do you love the big city- the architecture, murals, and urban atmosphere?  If so, downtown Albuquerque will allow you to have your dream location.  It is full of unique murals, awesome architecture, and plenty of urban atmosphere.  A photo session in nature, surrounded by the open spaces and beautiful views can also be stunning.  If that is your dream location then check out the bosque or Albuquerque’s Sandia foothills. If you want a stunning location that takes your breath away, get senior photos done up on Sandia’s peak accessible via the Sandia Tram.  Are you going to a college or university locally?  Check out having your photo session done at your new school.  The University of New Mexico (UNM- my personal alma mater) has a beautiful campus!  Or perhaps you want to remember your time at your current school, have a photo session at your high school or college campus.  If you are active in athletics or another outdoor activity use your local court or field to highlight your pastime!

Senior photos are a big investment.  You will want to look your best on the big day, and senior photos in Albuquerque are a big deal.  Many seniors arrange for hair and makeup before the session. Use someone that you have experience with or that is referred by a friend. Take care of yourself so you can come to your session well rested, and relaxed.  Bring water and make sure to eat beforehand.

You are the star of your senior photos.  Your photographer should offer the opportunity to change into multiple outfits.  Wear the clothes that make you feel and look your best!  Make sure your top, bottoms, or dress doesn’t look unflattering after you sit and stand back up.  Does your shirt bunch up in a way that makes you uncomfortable?  Have someone use their cell phone and some quick pictures of you from different angles.  Remember that professional photos are different from selfies.  You will be captured at different angles and poses.  You want to feel the most confident that you can, and don’t feel pressure to dress in a way that you would not normally do so.  This is your session, feel free to bring outfits that reflect who you are right now.  If you are active in sports bring your athletic uniform.  If you love being in band then bring your instrument and uniform.  If you have any cultural or indigenous outfits, please bring them!  You are the highlight of your session. ​Our pets can be our best friends.  Don’t be afraid to ask your senior photographer if you can bring your well-behaved pet to your senior photos.  Your pet should be comfortable with traveling to your photo shoot location.  Of course, never make the mistake of causing your pet to have stress or anxiety just for a photo session.  Every pet has their own limit on what they can sit through, so keep that in mind. If your pet will not be in every image of your senior session then make sure to bring someone along to care for your pet while you enjoy the rest of your photo session.

​Your photo session is about you and your personality.  Bring items that are special to you.  If you are a musician then bring your instrument. Seniors active in athletics may bring balls or other athletic equipment.  If you have a special prop that means a lot to you then bring it!  Make sure to let your photographer know what you plan on bringing to a photo session. If you are bringing a prop that is oversized or requires special handling then make sure to think out the logistics of how your prop will be stored if you aren’t holding it.  

​Your graduation cap and gown are something that is unique to seniors and graduates.  Embrace them!  Bring your cap and gown to your session.  If you haven’t received your cap and gown yet then your photographer may have one that you can borrow, usually in the iconic black.  Remember you and your photographer are a team.  Senior Photos in Albuquerque mean cap and gowns in a rainbow of colors.  

​If you intend to use your photo session images for the yearbook then double check your high school yearbook requirements.  Some schools only allow yearbook photos from a single photographer, who does all of the senior yearbook photos in bulk.  Utilize the school provided photographer for the yearbook images, but outside of school your personal photographer is there to capture your momentous occasion where and how you want it.  A senior session should be fun, in an amazing location, and with all of the props that you want! 

Make sure to book your senior photo session early. Your senior or final year of school is usually full of to do lists, homework, and required tasks.  You’ll want to have enough time to have a relaxed and fun session without worrying about a time crunch.  Weather or illness may delay your photo session.
