What to Wear to a Photo Session- a Visual Guide from your Albuquerque Photographer Anna Cummings9/16/2020
What to Wear for Your Photos
It's time! It’s time to get the details just right, and you don’t know where to start. Your photo session is approaching soon, what do you wear?? Below are my top 6 tips, all 12 tips are provided in my Visual Guide: What to Wear for Your Photography Session for my clients from your Albuquerque Photographer Anna Cummings. If you haven't booked with me but have questions about getting ready for a photo session, send them my way! I love to help!
Tip #1 Relax
I’ve got years of experience photographing families, couples, and individuals. Don’t worry I’ve got some advice to help you on your way. The first step is to relax! Your photographer should be guiding you and answering any questions you have, trust them! If outfit choices are causing you anxiety then take a deep breath. Look in your closet and find you favorite outfits that gives you confidence. Build your family's outfit around this one piece.
Tip #2 Be Sensible
This tip is geared toward those in Albuquerque or in New Mexico, but can apply anywhere. Prepare for the weather and the location! Not all shoes are made for sandy walks in the bosque. Layers are perfect when the wind gets chilly, or when the sun gets hot. Be prepared for cold or wind. I pack hand warmers for my clients when it gets chilly. Just a little warmth helps everyone feel a whole lot more comfortable. Keep those babies from getting overheated. Babies should be dressed simply and comfortably.
Tip #3 Don't Leave Out Shoes in Your Outfit Planning
Don't forget about having a nice pair of shoes for everyone in the family! Sometimes shoes can be a lost or forgotten detail in an outfit. No flip flops or athletic sneakers please! Double check everyone's shoes. Make sure the shoes are comfortable and complement their outfit. Also make sure they are appropriate for the location (stilettos don't work well in the desert)! A photographer's job is to make sure are prepared for the specific requirements each location demands. Communicate with your photographer.
Tip #4 Don't Match, Coordinate!
Instead of matching everyone else, coordinate. Pick a color scheme and build your outfits around that. Your outfits should complement one another. Large patterns photograph nicely and can be flattering. Mix up your outfits with layers of different textures.
Tip #5 Embrace Textures and Layers (My Fave Tip)
Build your outfit with lots of visual interest. Layers, textures, and visual interest are amazing! Embrace textures such as denim, corduroy, linen, muslin. Pair elaborate with simple. A simple top with a flowy skirt. Layers are your friend for your winter portraits when everything is so chilly.
Tip #6 Don't Over Accessorize
Too many layered necklaces, or more than one dramatic statement piece can distract from you in your photos. The photos are portraits of you, let your clothes and accessories flatter your good looks, not distract from them. You deserve beautiful photos of you and your family!
